Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

EDI Overview

At First Rail London, we are committed to placing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) at the heart of how we operate the London Overground. We define equity as ensuring people receive the support they need to thrive, diversity as valuing the wide range of backgrounds and experiences our colleagues bring, and inclusion as creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, supported, and able to contribute fully.

Our aim is to build a fair, safe, and welcoming environment which is free from discrimination, bullying, and harassment. We want to build an environment where everyone can bring their whole selves to work. This commitment aligns with Transport for London’s focus on fairness, inclusion, and representation across the network.

Inclusive Workforce

Inclusive Workforce

We are dedicated to fostering a culture in which colleagues feel valued, listened to and empowered. This includes embedding inclusive leadership behaviours, offering mandatory EDI training to all colleagues, promoting psychological safety, supporting active colleague networks, and maintaining clear routes for reporting concerns.

By championing inclusion at every level, we aim to strengthen engagement, support wellbeing, and provide fair opportunities for development and progression across our teams.

Reflecting the Communities We Serve

As the operator of the London Overground, we are committed to building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities along our network. This includes actively improving the representation of women, disabled and neurodiverse colleagues, and people from ethnic minority backgrounds, as well as taking steps to remove barriers to recruitment, retention and progression.

By gathering and acting on diversity data, engaging with local communities, and maintaining fair and transparent employment practices, we aim to create a railway that truly represents and serves London.
